This year's Homecoming 2022 Grand Marshal was our very own Chuck Sauer, better known as Hippy Chuck. The Grand Marshal is a prominent community member who dedicates a lot of their time to the Hayfork Community.
At age 74 Hippy Chuck is still getting out there and making our small community a great place. He is known by everyone all around the community and never hesitates to visit you when passing by. He contributes all he can to make sure the people in our town get the best. He understands the struggles of being such a small community and that in order for anything to be done, there needs to be volunteers to do it. ASB and The Timberline staff thank Hippy Chuck for all he has done and continues to do. Below you will find his Q&A:
How long have you been a part of the Hayfork community?
About 52 years.
How long have you been contributing to the Hayfork community?
I entered my first fair in 1971, and started the Friends Band in the 80s, so I'd say about 50 years or so.
What does it mean to you to be named the 2022 Homecoming Grand Marshal?
A tremendous honor.
What are some of your favorite community events you have participated in?
The fair, Bigfoot BBQ, Springfest, roller rink, Miners Christmas Dinner, playing music at the Tribal Stomps.
What are some of your favorite community events you enjoy participating in?
Hyampom Good Times fair, the Rodeo, the fair, Bigfoot BBQ, shooting fireworks (both past and present).
Why do you feel it is important to volunteer and participate in community events?
The community needs volunteers. We are a small community and need lots of help. Help from others betters the community, and if we don't have volunteers helping, then things won't get done.
Why do you participate and dedicate your time to the community?
I feel it is important because people are needed to make things happen and we should all do what we can do.
If you could give any sort of advice to our current Hayfork High students, what would it be?
Participate in whatever you can, be truthful and honest, help each other, and most importantly, be happy.
In your opinion, what makes our Hayfork community so unique?
The fact that we can pull together in adverse situations. If somebody burns out, everyone is there to help. If there’s a fire, everyone is there. All differences are put aside and everyone helps each other.
