The 60th Annual Hayfork High Scholastic Awards Night will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 6 p.m. in the Hayfork High School cafeteria.
The Scholastic Awards Night is an annual ceremony that showcases Hayfork High students' academic skills and achievements throughout the school year. These awards include individual awards that will be handed out by teachers, as well as scholarships that will be awarded to the senior class via the Hayfork Scholarship Foundation and other organizations.
Ever since 1975, the Hayfork Scholarship Foundation has awarded around $247,688 to seniors who have graduated through the years. In addition to senior scholarships, the Hayfork Scholarship Foundation has also awarded $208,146 worth of scholarships since 1984 to students who are in the Continuing Education Scholarship program, which is awarded to graduates going onto a second year or more of post-secondary studies. The Hayfork Scholarship Foundation is “supported by the donations from a community that understands and appreciates our endeavor,” as stated in their program pamphlet.
Other awards given during the night include department awards from each teacher, such as mathematics, English and history. An overall award is also given to the “most improved” student at Hayfork High, along with scholarships from Big Valley Properties, The McConnell Foundation, and the Hayfork Scholarship Foundation, and many more. Other special awards will also be announced such as the valedictorian and salutatorian awards. Students have begun receiving invitations for the night.
Two students from HHS will each receive $30,000 from the McConnell foundation.
