Get Stuck in 1984: HHS Announces Play Dates

This year’s HHS theater class will be performing a serious play based on the novel, 1984, by George Orwell. The high-school adapted version was written by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall Jr. and William A. Miles Jr. Performance dates, with permission from Dramatic Publishing, are in May: Friday, May 20; Saturday, May 21; and the following week on Friday May 27, and Saturday the 28th.

1984 is a theatrical dystopia that is both powerful and disturbingly provocative. This play follows life of Winston Smith, a low ranking member of ‘the Party,’ who is frustrated by the omnipresent eyes of the party and its ominous ruler, Big Brother.

The main role of Winston Smith will be played by senior Alan Buell. “It’s so exciting to be a lead role, especially because it’s probably my last chance to perform,” Buell said.

Other student actors include: Samantha Castellanos, Cheyenne Xiong, Samarah Rhoades, Andy Yang, Charlie Vang, Gaochia Yang, Siena Yang, Haumsiab Xiong, Angelina Yang, Quentin Horne, and Sunshine Montgomery.

Stage, lighting, art, and production assistants to teacher Ms. Tucker include: Alyssa DeMoe, assistant director; Jacalyn Carson, lighting director; Trinity Foster, art director; and Sunshine Montgomery, art assistant.

Tickets for 1984 will be sold by the theater class in the spring.
