MVUSD Superintendent, Anmarie Swanstrom, gave a presentation showing how schools in the district are moving in a positive direction.
The California Dashboard states, “The California School Dashboard is an online tool that shows how local educational agencies and schools are performing on state and local indicators that are included in California's school accountability system.” The purpose of this is to show guardians what their child’s school is like and the progress they are making.
The MVUSD Superintendent, Anmarie Swanstrom, said that there has been a great increase in mathematics and English Language Arts scores. She says that the amount of teachers willing to help students and host interventions contribute to this. Superintendent Swanstrom stated that 41.7% of EL (English learning) students have made a lot of progress in learning English. She continued to explain, “Last school year the Hayfork Elementary School EL support instructor position was not filled, but this year the position is not only filled but the services are being delivered by an individual who is going above and beyond to meet the needs of these students.”
Regarding school disciplinary actions, Superintendent Swanstrom states, “The decrease in student’s negative behavior adversely impacting the learning environment of their peers directly correlates with the increase of academics and the decrease in suspension rates.” MVUSD helps the students to focus on the positive side of life.
The School Accountability Report Card is another online tool to show the progress and performance level of schools in California, as well as the school’s condition.
The goals of MVUSD according to the 2022 School Accountability Report Card is that the district as a whole will, “1. Focus on a support system designed to meet academic and emotional needs of students. (Local Control and Accountability Plan Goals 1,3) 2. Provide a curriculum that balances individualization and vetted best practices for all students. (LCAP Goals 1,2,3) 3. Provide students and families with choices and meaningful opportunities to improve their school experiences. (LCAP Goals 2,3).” Another goal is that the students of Hayfork High will, “succeed in curriculum that rigorously challenges them, participate in the mainstream activities of the school, increase their participation in post-secondary educational activities, receive comprehensive career guidance and practical job related skills, and become educated and responsible members of society.”
The Facility Inspection Tool is an inspection of the school sites. Hayfork Elementary School passed the inspection with a 92.86% school rating. The upper grade wing, the teacher/storage, and maintenance room were in okay condition, while the main building, computer/science wing, primary wing, and gym/kitchen were in great condition.
The MOU is between the MVUSD board and CSEA. MVUSD and CSEA have agreed to change, “the Range for Counseling Technician position from Range 7 to Range 10 of the classified salary schedule.” It was agreed on December 21, 2022.
At the time of the board meeting, enrollment at each site was as follows:
Hayfork Elementary = 238
Hayfork High School = 88
Valley High School = 3
District Total = 329
The next board meeting is on February 8.
