Hayfork's Poetry Out Loud team has finished their competitions. The Poetry Out Loud competition is a multi-step program. The first step was students versus students within the same school. This competition took place on January 25 at Hayfork High School. Freshman Samarah Rhoades took first place and freshman Mercedes Thao took second place.
When asked about her win Rhoades replied, "I honestly had no idea if it was real. All 4 of us have worked so hard for that moment, we all deserved the win. I'm so glad we all got to share that spotlight."
The competition then moved on to the county-wide competition, in which all 5 Hayfork contestants competed in at the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center (TAPAC) on February 6. Sadly, none of the Hayfork contestants placed at the county competition.
This years Hayfork Poetry Out Loud was coached by Becky Stetson. Hayfork's contestants were: Cheyenne Xiong, Gaochia Yang, Samarah Rhoades, Arizona Shanahan, Mercedes Thao.
