Hayfork’s Timberjacks lost all urgency in playing in the game against Princeton. They played hard against Westwood a few weeks ago. “Not a lot of positives from this game, " said Timberjack Coach Mike Miller. "We played hard with intensity a couple weeks ago against Westwood, but we haven't found that sense of urgency since.”
Hayfork started off the game with a 48-yard TD pass from senior Dakota Mummy to sophomore Troy Hair for a 6-0 lead. “Then the wheels came off,” Miller added. “We were a step slow on defense, and had a difficult time getting lined up properly against Princeton's offense.” Princeton had a 42-yard TD pass and a 75-yard TD run. Then after recovering an onside kick, Princeton scored on a 35-yard TD run, taking a 20-6 lead into the 2nd quarter.
Hayfork began the quarter with a 48-yard run by junior Noah Fielding, and he also scored the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 20-14. Hayfork got the ball back, and drove down to the Princeton 2-yard line, but could not finish the drive before the first half ended.
In the third quarter, Princeton had all the momentum and scored on a 6-yard TD run followed by a 38-yard TD pass to take a 34-14 lead. In the fourth quarter, Princeton scored on a 53-yard TD run to increase their lead to 42-14. Mummy ran back the kickoff to the Princeton 10-yard line, and freshman Devin Nanez scored on a 3-yard TD run. Princeton finished the scoring with a 5-yard TD run to bring the final score to 48-20.
Noah Fielding carried the ball 20 times for 130 yards and a TD. Devin Nanez carried the ball 20 times for 101 yards and a TD. Mummy had the one TD pass of 48 yards to sophomore Troy Hair.
Hayfork plays next Friday at home against Dunsmuir for their homecoming. Hopefully, the players find some energy this week because we have been flat, and we are not playing with the same intensity that we did a couple weeks ago. Hayfork's record is now 2-4 with a league record of 2-2.
