The two teams traded scores all night until Hayfork pulled away in the 4th quarter. Dunsmuir scored first on a 76 yard TD run and Hayfork quickly responded with a 51 yard TD run by Noah Fielding. Dakota Mummy completed the 2 point conversion pass to Devin Nanez and the score was 8-8. Dunsmuir came right back with a long drive and finished with a 6 yard TD run while the Timberjacks scored on a 5 yard TD pass from Mummy to Kegan Xiong to tie the game again at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Dunsmuir ran another long TD run of 53 yards, but Mummy returned the Kickoff 70 yards for a TD. Mummy then completed the 2 point conversion pass to Nanez to give the Timberjacks a brief 24-22 lead. Dunsmuir scored on the next possession on a 37 yard TD run to put the Tigers in front 28-24. Hayfork drove at the end of the half and had a TD run called back on a holding penalty, and that ended a back and forth first half.
Dunsmuir started off the first quarter with a drive that ended with a 5 yard TD run to give the Tigers what seemed to be a comfortable 36-24 lead. But Hayfork outscored Dunsmuir 22-0 to finish the game. Nanez scored on a 55 yard TD run and Fielding ran in the 2 point conversion to close the gap to 36-32 to end the third quarter. Fielding opened the 4th quarter with a 4 yard TD run while Mummy ran in the 2 point play to give the Timberjacks the lead 40-36. The Hayfork defense shut Dunsmuir down after the opening second-half drive, and Mummy finished the night with a 24 yard TD pass to Nanez to give the Timberjacks a 46-36 win.
Defensively, James Morrison and Trenton Haight were the leading tacklers. Morrison finished with 14 tackles (8 solos) and Haight finished with 10 tackles (4 solos). Offensively, Noah Fielding carried the ball 29 times for 172 yards and scored two TDs. Devin Nanez carried the ball 12 times for 81 yards and a TD. Dakota Mummy had two TD passes, one to Kegan Xiong and the other to Nanez.
Hayfork is now 3-2 in league play and 3-4 overall. The Timberjacks showed improvement having lost to Dunsmuir 28-14 in the opening game of the season. Hayfork is now in third place in the league and still has a chance to make the playoffs. They finish their regular season with a game in Herlong on Saturday, October 30th at 1:00 pm. I am proud of the way our team responded tonight, and they played as a team, dominating the 4th quarter.
