The Timberjacks played a mistake-free first six minutes to start the game as Burney was shut down on their opening drive. Hayfork was able to convert a 15-play opening drive into points, as Levi Cavalli scored on a one-yard QB sneak to take an early 6-0 lead.
The rest of the half was close as Burney scored on a two-yard run to tie the game at 6-6. Burney was able to score near the end of the second half as the Raiders scored on a 65-yard run to make the halftime score 14-6.
Hayfork lost all of its momentum as Burney came out and scored quickly on runs of 41, 18, and 83 yards in the third quarter to make the score 34-6. The Raiders scored again in the 4th quarter to bring the final score to 40-6.
Cavalli carried the ball 25 times for 72 yards and a TD. Aidan Lorton carried the ball 19 times for 69 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, the Timberjacks were led by Cavalli as he had 18 tackles (15 solo) while also forcing and recovering a fumble. Lorton had 13 tackles (10 solo), Matt Sampson had 9 tackles (4 solo), and Anthony Bonelli had 7 tackles (5 solo) and a sack.
“We got off to a great start and then we just couldn't seem to get out of our own way with three turnovers,” said Coach Mike Miller. “We were not able to match Burney's intensity and we didn't play with the same energy as we did during our last home game against Butte Valley.”
Hayfork is now 4-3 in the season (1-2 in league play) and plays Tulelake next.
