Hayfork won their game Friday night in the first round of the North Section Division 6 Playoffs against a scrappy Loyalton Grizzlies' football team. Hayfork got the ball first and scored on a 34 yard TD run by Levi Cavalli. He also added the two point play and it was 8-0 Timberjacks. The Hayfork defense stopped Loyalton on three straight plays and then Devin Nanez blocked the punt. Cavalli scored on the next offensive possession and with his two point conversion the lead was 16-0. Loyalton finished off the second quarter with a brief drive after a Hayfork fumble. The Grizzlies attempted a 32 yard field goal but it was short. On the next Hayfork possession, Cavalli scored on a QB sneak, catching Loyalton off guard and scampered 55 yards to the end zone. With his 2 point conversion the lead was 24-0. Loyalton again recovered a Hayfork fumble, and got down to the Timberjacks' 3 yard line. On the next play, Anthony Bonelli hit the Loyalton running back behind the line of scrimmage and forced a fumble that was recovered by Evan Pickett. Hayfork drove the length of the field and got the ball inside the five yard line, but the clock ran out to end the half.
Hayfork scored quickly to start the third quarter and ended their touchdown drive with a 12 yard run by Cavalli who also ran in the two point play and it was 32-0. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, Devin Nanez scored from a yard out increasing the lead to 38-0. Hayfork fumbled in their own territory with less than three minutes to go, and Loyalton cashed in, scoring on the final play of the game on a 10 yard run bringing the final score to 38-6. Levi Cavalli carried the ball 19 times for 253 yards and had four touchdowns. Devin Nanez had 73 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown, and Anthony Bonelli had 77 yards on 15 carries. Aidan Lorton led the defense with 14 tackles (8 solo). Cavalli had 11 tackles (9 solo), and Nanez had 8 (6 solo) and the blocked punt. Bonelli had 6 (4 solo) with a sack and a forced fumble. Hayfork (11-0) will take on the Chester Volcanoes this Friday night at 6:00 pm in the Division 6 semi-finals. The winner will go on to the section championship game on November 17th. We need to clean up the turnovers on offense and we need to bring the same intensity on defense. It should be a great game as Chester is always a well-coached team.
