Hayfork Timberjacks played a hard but intense game this Wednesday on October 27th against the Princeton Eagles. Throughout the whole game the Timberjacks remained supportive of each other and showed good sportsmanship even when there were misunderstandings between the refs and teammates. The overall match left everyone in shock and on the edge of their seats.
The first set started with a serve from the Princeton eagles. The Timberjacks failed to get the first point of the set, but that didn’t stop them from working together as a team. In the middle of the game a nice rally left us at the edge of our seats until Princeton spiked it and Hayfork scored. Alexis Smith, senior, scored the final eight points needed to win the first set of the first championship game for the Hayfork Timberjacks. The final score of the first set was 25-19.
The second set started with a serve from the Hayfork Timberjacks. However, they failed to keep the ball in their possession due to the tension of the game. An honorable mention to #15 from Princeton, who took the lead in the beginning of the game, scoring Princeton 12 consecutive points. Hayfork played hard during this set, throwing themselves on the ground and leaving everyone in shock. However, through all the struggles and toughness of this set, the Eagles took the win for this set.
The third set started with a serve from the Princeton Eagles. The Eagles scored the very first points in the beginning of the set. Alexis Smith put an end to their rally with a spike from middle front. The Eagles failed to get the ball back up, giving the ball back to Hayfork. Arabella Carini, sophomore, spiked the ball and kept it in Hayfork’s possession. The final score for the third set of our first championship game was 23-25.
The fourth and final set of this match left everyone speechless. Hayfork started with the ball but the serve was short; giving the first point to Princeton. #15 on Princeton’s side continued to serve excellently, gaining another streak for the Eagles. The Jacks eventually put an end to Princeton’s amazing serves. Even though winning seemed impossible to the Jacks, they stayed persistent throughout the whole game. Even Madison Balbini, senior, took a dive almost into the bleachers, trying to retrieve the ball. The final score of the fourth set was 12-25.
Even though Hayfork lost the very first championship game everyone was very proud of their efforts. The team remained motivated throughout the whole season and even throughout their hardest games. The Timberjacks may not have come up on top for the regional playoffs but with what they have faced throughout the season, they played proud and fierce. Go Jacks!
